"Can I clean up my physical memory to speed up my computer?" ?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

My computer seem to be dragging lately. When I spoke to Norton, they had me check my system properties. This is what it says:

Gateway Inc
Intel (R) Pentium
(R)4 CPU 2.00GHz
AT/AT Compatible
130,352 KB RAM

The gentleman said I really needed to get my physical memory upgraded because mine was small. He said I should get more than 512…

Any suggestions? I hate to sound so ignorant.

what is the definition of a clean lap on need for speed shirt?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I cant seem to get a clean lap no matter how i race. I have done the lap without hitting any cars or any fences but still didnt get a clean lap so how do i get a clean lap?

I would imagine it is very easy to get a clean lap if it just involves not hitting anything so maybe you must not hit anything throughout whole the race and still win ?

My husband wants our house cleaned spotless every day. Is this normal?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

My husband expects me to have the house spotless every day (floors swept and mopped, no obvious dust or pet hair on the furniture, every single thing put away, absolutely no mess anywhere). He also wants me to thoroughly clean the kitchen after each meal. I would prefer to pick up a little after breakfast and lunch and then do the sweeping, scrubbing the sink and counters, and putting the dishes in the dishwasher after dinner. It would save a lot of time to do all the major cleaning in the kitchen just once a day. I don’t think most people live this way, but he claims I’m just a slob and that it isn’t normal not to clean your house perfectly every day. We have a 2 year old that is home with me every day and I run a business from home so this cleaning schedule is difficult to maintain. Do most people clean their house like this every day?
He cleans too. He often goes over areas that I have already cleaned because it’s not cleaned to his standards. On weekends he almost always has some sort of cleaning project planned. He has always been like this to a point, but since our little one has come along the house gets messier and I have less time to clean. He says he can’t relax if the house is messy. I like a tidy house, but unlike him a few crumbs on the floor or a couple of water spots on the floor don’t send me into an angry cleaning frenzy.

If he wants it that way then tell him to do it himself simple as that.;)

How do I clean my rug/carpet?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I used one of those machines to clean a rug and it’s left it all streaky. I want to start again when it’s dry and not using the machine..so can anyone tell me what carpet cleaner to use or has any tips or suggestions. Any help appreciated. How do you clean your rugs/carpets?

If your have the extractor you can still clean fairly good. I used to clean proffesionaly with a bonnet cleaner and extracter. If you don’t have a bonnet cleaner then just spot treat the areas which are soiled the most. You can also take some laundry detergent and add a little to bucket of water. Add just enough till water feels slippery. Then go around and scrubb soiled areas with a hand brush, that are the worst. This is called spot treating. Then suck up these areas with the extractor. I think the streaky look is becaues of the way you pull the wand across the rug. You do however want the fibers to be lifted and not flat. This makes for a faster drying time. So pull back the wand the opposite way that the fibers lay causing them to stand up and look fluffy. If you go the other way it will cause it to look flat. Oh, and don’t add boiling water to machine there are plastic parts and seals in machine which will be damaged by hot water. You can use hot water but not boiling…

Need help with starting house cleaning business?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I am planning to start school this summer and I need to work also. I thought about cleaning houses (hopefully 6 houses) 2 days a week. I am married and can only make so much money to still be qualified for finanical aid. I was thinking if I cleaned house I could do it under the table and not have to file it on taxes. I need some advise from people that do this for a living. I need to know what chores you do at the houses? Do you supply the cleaning products or do you make the person supply their own? How do you decide how much to charge? I do live in a small town. And any other advise that might help me along the way.

My experiences with small businesses of this type are that you really need strong word of mouth advertising. Your first steps should be to advertise in your local newspaper or weekly coupon pages (almost every town has a small weekly periodical that accepts advertising for a reasonable fee).

You need to establish yourself as trustworthy and dependable with your clients so you can use them as references. People need to know the person they have in their homes is there to clean and not clean them out. You will be amazed how fast your name will spread through town once you have a couple of well established clients. People talk, especially if they have someone that provides good, reasonably priced services.

Get some business cards, either print them yourself at home with business card stock you can buy at any office supply store, or order them online. They are cheap and as you get clients be sure to give them some to give to friends. Keep your cards simple, have a phone number where you can always be reached (I can’t stress this enough) and get back to people quickly. If you’re not there to answer your phone and make appointments your potential clients will move on to the next business.

You should carry your own cleaning supplies with you (Lysol, Pinesol, Windex, towels, etc.) in a bucket with gloves and other support items. A vacuum is a definite plus, but if it’s not in your reach financially then it’s OK to ask your clients to use theirs just be sure you stipulate that up front.

Price aggressively but don’t undersell yourself. Be very clear going in what your services include. Time yourself on how long it takes to do things. For example an average sized room takes 5-10 minutes to vacuum or dry mop. Cleaning a bathroom takes 15-20. If you go in to a home and see it has 5 rooms and a bathroom you should figure a good hour to hour & 15 minutes to do just those tasks. It’s not unreasonable to ask for $20-25/Hour to start (depending on your geographical location), but the key is to make a mental note of how big the house is and do the math as you walk through it. If you’ve got a 10 room 3 bathroom house and you only charge them $20 you are underselling yourself. Be realistic, you’re not out to make a million dollars, but rather to bring in some extra cash with some schedule flexibility.

Let your clients tell you what they want and then go over it with them so you’re sure you both agree. A quick recap of "I will come in weekly on Wednesday to vacuum all the floors, clean the bathroom, empty the trash, and dry mop the kitchen floor for $30.", will set expectations right off the bat and make sure you’re customer is happy.

Don’t be afraid to sell other services along with your weekly duties. "For an additional $xx a month I’d be happy to dust for you every other week." or "I’d be happy to wash the kitchen floors, do the windows for and additional $xx". They’ll appreciate it and you’ll get a little extra business.

Your reputation is critical in this type of work especially in a small town. You need to be on time, courteous, and trustworthy all the time. Nothing will destroy your business quicker than bad word of mouth. Good luck!

what is the best cleaning product for hardwood floors?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

im tired of the streaking..im confused as to what product i should use to make my floors shiny and clean..what about what kind of mops? thanks in advance

Most wood floors can be kept clean by first sweeping or vacuuming with a floor nozzle to remove most of the surface dust and dirt, then damp mopping with clear water (dip a sponge in clear water, squeezing it out so that the mop is barely damp, almost dry). Use very little water and rinse your mop thoroughly after each use since excess water can dissolve protective coatings, alter the color of the wood and raise the grain to roughen the surface.

If your floors are not dirty enough to need mopping every week, then you should not do it, as it will wear the floors faster, not to mention waste your time. Simply sweeping is often all they need.

If need to restore the shine to your wood floor after you get it clean, try damp mopping it with 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons furniture polish in a gallon of warm water. Vinegar is also useful for removing any soap residue or build-up, but should not be necessary every week…

I’M A FIRST TIME DOG OWNER: Can someone please help me form a schedule for house braking my new puppy.?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

My husband and I just got a new puppy, we where told when we got her that she was house broken. Well after cleaning up so much pee and poo in our house we have come to the conclusion that she is NOT house broken. We have been using the crate method of potty training and its just not working that great. Maybe we are doing it wrong, but she just does not get it. She is an 8 month old mutt ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPOIPT4uRvM ) and her name is Courtney. Right now we have been keeping her in her crate and only letting her out to eat and go to the bathroom. When she does go potty outside we praise her, give her a treat, and let her play in the yard with us or around the house with us for 15 minutes. The problem we are having is that she takes forever to go to the bathroom outside. Sometimes it takes 4 trips outside (each lasting about 15 minutes with 30 minutes between trips) before she finally goes to the bathroom. Sometimes we think she has to go but just holds it anyways. Like today, its 6am here and the last time she went to the bathroom was 8pm last night, and that was on our hallway floor. We tell her NO when she goes inside but she just does not seem to care. She pees when she gets excited, and she gets excited over everything. I work at home and because we just moved to a new house I’m closed down for a few weeks. So I have about 3 weeks to work with her on this before I have to start work again. We get up at 3am and go to bed at 8pm, can someone help me come up with a good schedule for me and my husband to fallow with our dog.
Oh yeah, and she gives NO sign when she has to go outside and use the bathroom. So we have no clue when she has to go untill she goes.
OK, Did anyone really read what I said…She is 8 MONTHS OLD!!! Not a pupply that needs to pee every 2 hours. Also you all keep telling me to take her outside to pee (I DO THIS ALL THE TIME SHE JUST DOES NOT PEE).

Okay, I’m glad you have three weeks for this, cause it will take every minute……Stop keeping her in the crate all the time….Her body needs to move around for her bowels and her kidneys to work well, they need circulation, which increases with exercise….Keep her in the room you are in by building barriers out of boxes or anything you have….watch her closely…..give her chew toys, and bones to keep her busy….if she acts like she is going to go, or starts going, grab he quick, tell her no while you are taking her outside….keep a close eye on her. Keep praising her when she does go outside. Play with her often, this will keep her kidneys working well. Remember, she is still a puppy….Keep her water and food controlled. Water every two hours, food twice a day. Take her out 30 minutes after she eats or drinks. This will be very time consuming, but if you keep at it, it will work. Still put her in the crate at night, and when you leave the house only…..Eventually she will come up with a way to let you know….I have had dogs who go to the door and either sit or bark, ones that just sit and stare at me, and ones that come up to me and bark….so just watch her, take your time with her, and it will all pay off in the end……

cleaning carpet stains?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I need to know how to attack the carpets stains I have. I hate the stains, I only have a few and they’re ugly and makes the room look dirty even when the room is cleaned. I’m going to borrow my mom’s shampoo vaccume but I know it’s not going to do the job completely. The carpet is a light tan/beige color. Any tips that works? I don’t want to go out and buy products that may not work because I’m clueless. Thanks in advance =)

I use Sol-U-Mel first, I use the diluted version for light stains and for heavy stains I use the non-diluted version. Be sure to using sparingly and dab.

If the stain doesn’t lift, then I use Oxi Clean. I mix Oxi Clean with hot water, one table spoon of Oxi Clean to 8 oz.

Squirt a small amount of the Oxi Clean mix on the stain. Then Dab.

Down side to Oxi Clean is it may leave lighter patches on the carpet where it lifted the stains. :(
