Do you feel guilty cleaning your house and not paying attention to your kids?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Moms do you feel guilty cleaning the house? My family and I live in a two bedroom apartment. I do have a cleaning schedule. I have two small children so I take house cleaning very slow. I go room by room each day. One day I clean the kitchen, next day bathroom, and on the third day I do the one bedroom, dining room, and living room. Those last three rooms are very easy to clean that is why I can do them in such a short time period. I don’t clean the second bedroom because that is my husband’s computer room. He does it himself. Anyways, I always feel guilty while I’m cleaning. I usually clean while my 8 months old naps in the morning but that leaves my 20 month old awake and usually looking bored. He sits with me while I clean and I take a break and fix him his lunch but when I go back to cleaning he lays on the floor and stares at the ceiling. He has toys but is not interested and he does not watch t.v. I think I like Sesame Street more than he does. I like my house to be clean but why do I have to feel so guilty while I’m doing it? I even went from cleaning the house once a week to every other week because I figured my kids are more important than a clean house but I was so uncomfortable.

Me and my hubby just cleaned like crazy people in our kitchen (we have ants) =[
Cleaned for about 2 hours, but my son went to bed :)

If im cleaning the kitchen like bottles or dishes I usually just put him in his highchair with toys and a sippy cup and he has fun watching me clean.

Stop Lights in the Fast Lane

Selling a business is not a trivial task. Many speed bumps can be eliminated or minimized with some attention and advanced planning. At all costs, you should avoid waiting for the closing table to learn that your business had some “issues” that will disinterest the buyer, reduce multiples or increase discounts and adjustments.

In the sections below, you will find a collection of items to address to ensure that green lights are glowing through the finish line. Arguably, each section merits an entire chapter in a book, however, for the busy executive; here are some of the highlights:

Start Early
This first step can’t be overemphasized. Schedule time on your calendar each day/week to get all of your ducks in a row.

Shareholder Consensus
Review the internal shareholder environment. Make sure that all of the owners agree that the sale of your company is the correct liquidity event given your current business situation, strategic plan and other business dynamics. Schedule an internal meeting to get all stakeholder input on a potential sale. Take official notes, for some may develop selective amnesia, as the potential sale progresses. Do you have any minority groups or individuals that might resist the liquidity event? Do you have an ex-partner that might want a piece of the action? Do you have a current/former shareholder that has been through a divorce, potentially creating an expectation that he/she owns a stake in the business? Are there any owner siblings involved in the business? Children disputes will most likely foul the deal for potential buyers, and future managers could spend a ton of energy and corporate resources cleaning up the mess and/or acquired corporate culture.

Maintain Focus on the Current Business
Don’t take your eye off the ball. Since most entrepreneurs/business leaders can successfully manage the sale of a business, their natural reaction is to take on the project as an additional task to their already growing list of daily responsibilities. Don’t do it! During the six-to-nine month lead time of the sale, your business valuation can deteriorate. Hire a Business Broker (BB)/Investment Banker (IB) to handle the initial valuation, marketing and day-to-day sales process. The best thing that you can do to help with the final sale price of your firm is to keep focused on growing the business.

Human Resources
Employment related issues such as unfunded pensions and former employee obligations/severance issues can impede deal momentum. Verify that Employee Stock Option/Ownership Plans and Shareholder Agreements align with your desire to sell. Review your insurance policies. Do you have key-man insurance?

Facilities
Environmental issues such as a leaky fuel tank, chipped paint, unsafe facilities, contamination, etc., are all items that can slow or halt a deal. As seen in the residential real estate market, a fresh coat of paint and some fresh flowers in the reception area can improve the potential buyers “feel good” factor when evaluating the business.

Production/Manufacturing
Product warranty related liabilities that may impede future performance.

Taxation
Talk to your tax advisor about any upcoming tax issues that might adversely affect the sale and his/her deal structure preferences to maximize shareholder value. Ensure that the firm is current on all federal, state(s), local, payroll, sales and income tax liabilities.

Finance
Talk to your CFO. Are your loans assumable? Are your financial statements audited? If not, the potential buyers will hire a CPA firm to audit your books, which will likely reduce your valuation. Have a complete set of updated and audited financials available at all times.

Legal
Talk to your corporate counsel regarding past items that might come out of the closet during a buyers Due Diligence (DD) process and deal structures that will best satisfy your shareholders. Ask him/her for a review of all contracts (vendor, customer and strategic relationships), or anyone else in your end-to-end supply chain. Do you have any transferability or assignability issues? Is your Intellectual Property, such as copyrights, trademarks, service marks, patents and ideas, protected? Do you have any Union-related issues that need to be addressed? Are there any “poison pill” clauses in your shareholder agreement or corporate bi-laws that can kill the deal?

Sales
Talk to your sales leadership. (If you are the CEO as well as the VP of Sales, talk to yourself, but not in public.) Review current contracts. Cleanup your sales pipeline list. Create a red (lost deal), yellow (major issues exist), green (sales process tracking well) report and make adjustments as needed. Weigh each potential deal and calculate the probability-adjusted pipeline which will be used later in the valuation process. Be conservative, for if your deal closes with an earn-out, you will likely get paid on the performance of closing the opportunities in your pipeline.

Customers
Call your customers proactively to ensure that all is well. Some DD teams may discretely contact clients. Have your internal team develop a red/yellow/green action plan for each client to convert any reds and yellows to greens. Having too many cautionary (yellow) or negative (red) client references may spook the buyer or cause downward pressure on the sale price.

Valuation
Have your BB/IB create a valuation using comps, an in-depth evaluation of the business fundamentals, market conditions, strategic positioning (items covered in my next article). Make sure that your board agrees with the valuation. Ultimately, the market (disguised by one or more serious buyers) will determine the real market value of your business at that particular moment in time. Nothing more, nothing less! Of course there is the rare emotional buyer that is willing to pay way over market price for a multitude of strategic or personal reasons. The buyer will need to consult their CPAs on how to best handle the excess goodwill (overpayment). Many buyers want to pay a multiple of recent results, such as revenue or EBITDA. On the other hand, sellers want to receive an amount based on future potential, using some gyration of a discounted cash flow model. Ultimately, the negotiations team will meet at a price that is perceived as comfortable for both sides of the table.

The Inner Circle
Decide who needs to know about the possible sale. Given the culture and other group dynamics, one might choose to include the entire company in the decision. Some leaders choose to include the customers in the final deal process. Other owners choose to keep the entire process under wraps and disguise the BB/IB teams and possible buyers performing DD as “consultants” or “auditors.” Most leaders include a handful of strategic team leaders in the process and do not share any details with the rest of the company or customer until a deal has been reached. Some teams create a code name for the “project” to be used on email, calendars, etc.

Strategic Plan
Is your strategic or business plan up-to-date? Do you have an Executive Summary worthy of handing to a serious High Net Worth investor or corporate buyer? If not, your BB/IB will create this document for you. Have you thought through an integration strategy for each potential buyer. A local acquisition may require closing one office and consolidating teams. A foreign or out-of-state acquisition may require your operations to maintain, if not grow, the buyers regional/international presence.

Health
Review the health and professionalism of the owners. Will the buyers want to acquire your management team? If the tables were turned, would you hire yourself? Given the outcome of your review, have a plan in mind because the buyer may ask about career/succession planning.

Competition
Review your competition. Can the competition throw you a curve ball to derail the deal? If so, what kind? Engage your inner circle team in a contingency planning discussion to perfect your competitive strategy.

What’s Your Exit Strategy?
Review your own intentions. What are your motivations? Do you want to cash out and retire or do you want a leadership role in the acquiring firm with an “earn out” over time? Are you looking for a stay package? Some buyers may not give you an option. Think through your plans for each path.

Team Negotiations
Review your acquisition team. Do you have an experienced M&A lawyer, tax lawyer, accountant, etc.? Who will be the lead negotiator? If you intend to maintain a working relationship with the buyer, remove yourself from the point position and let the lawyer or BB/IB take the lead. Most business owners are emotionally connected to the firm, which clouds their ability to successfully negotiate.

Buyer Targeting
Create a target list of perfect buyers (green), unknown buyers (yellow), and nightmare buyers (red). Are you targeting a horizontal buyer that would benefit from a new product/industry offering, or, should you target a vertical buyer that can use your product/service to augment their existing portfolio in the same industry segment? Have weekly team meetings to review progress of each buyer opportunity and reclassify as needed. Update your selling strategy as new market information unfolds.

Are You Ready?
Lastly, your BB/IB will need you to be responsive to prospective buyer requests. Are you committed to this liquidity journey or are you simply just trying to gauge a retirement planning scenario? If the latter is true, hire a CPA firm to appraise the business value. If your committed to the sale, hire a BB/IB, jump in, be responsive and don’t look back.

Good luck. I hope to see you in the “Fast Lane.”

Grease and Grime are No Match for a Pressure Washer

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

What is a pressure washer? A pressure washer sprays air and water at very fast speed which is pressurized, this pressure makes the power of water very strong and it is able to get rid of dirt, grease, grime and stains. Pressure washer’s efficiency depends upon the PSI (pounds per square inch), which indicates water pressure, and GPM (gallons per minute), which indicates the flow of the water.

Pressure washers or power washers are used in many places, car washes use it and many retail stores use it to clean the sidewalks in front of there businesses. Pressure washers or power washers are commonly used for stubborn stains, dirt, grime off of most kinds of surfaces including wood, glass, steel and tar via high pressure water flow. When using the pressure washer almost all them have a trigger mechanism to spray the water in a continuous spray or in short bursts.

Water is shot through the hose at very high pressure so that the water acts as its own abrasive. Using the pressure water it will remove stains and dirt, this is much better than using abrasive cleaners, the cleaners can hurt your surface when cleaning.

When cleaning a frame for a car you are restoring a pressure washer is perfect. Cleaning car parts is now easy to do when using a pressure washer, you can clean your car and really get it clean. When you clean your rims of your car clean them first and then after you are done with the car make sure you rinse the rims off and dry them completely. To clean the frame properly to get rid of grease, oil flaky paint, cob webs and debris we would suggest the 15 degree tip for maximum power. To clean your rims really well you may wish to purchase some rim cleaner, there are several brands at auto supply companies and discount department stores.

Washing your car at home using a pressure washer is fun and simple. One of the most popular uses of pressure washers is cleaning your car, although they can be used to clean just about anything.

Soft water is good for doing vehicles to help prevent hard water spots but is not necessary for concrete.

Pressure washers come with accessories, these accessories are available for home use and commercial use, you can find these at retail outlet stores some of the accessories are extension wand, brushes, foam applicators, spray guns and other adapters. Pressure washers are an excellent tool when you want to clean surfaces. If need to clean a deck or a sidewalk or any other surface one of the best tools is a pressure washer.

High pressure water has the power to remove the dirt on many surfaces without hurting the surface you are removing it form, using abrasive cleaners might harm the surface but with pressure washers the concern is not there.

Data Fiber Optics – Light Speed Transmission

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Why settle for slow speed, high electricity costs and a technology invented a hundreds years ago if you can have the latest in data transmission at less the cost and many times the speed?

With the use of glass or plastic threads to transmit data the fiber optics is an upcoming technology. A bundle of glass threads capable of transmitting messages that are transformed into light waves is what makes the data fiber optics. Sharing a variety of technical details in the flowing article, I hope to make you have a better understanding of the subject of fiber optics. The functions will be demonstrated by explaining how the technology uses light energy to provide information and data to a variety of sources.

Engineering Science
Part of applied science consists of data fiber optics and the engineering behind it is comprised of the science and technology of transmitting data or energy. The basic fundamentals of fiber optics are defined through scientific processes and mathematical equations that fall closely under the realm of physics where you will find that the actual flow of the data can easily be put into observable and replicable systems. So even though most people do not understand “light” is can be show to them though scientific methods.

Data fiber optics or optic fibers are often used in the field of imaging optics, sensors, telecommunications, and lighting in general. This is mainly due to the data transmission speed and the fact that it doesn’t require electrical impulses to move the data. It is causing the need for electrical power in terms of data transmission to become nearly obsolete because the light transmits energy faster and cleaner than any other know technology.

Telecommunications and Data Fiber Optics
For you to fully understand the implications on technology by using fiber optics, we need to understand how it works in terms of telecommunications. By conducting signals over distance for communication purposes telecommunications was born. Telecommunications are widespread and there are many devices that assist in the spread of this communication, such as the radio, the fax machine and the television. One of the heavy factors in these mediums is the Data fiber optics technology.

A telecommunications system’s basic fundamentals are the transmitter, the receiver and the transmission medium. A transmitter is an electronic device that sends an electromagnetic signal with the aid of an antenna, essentially taking information and converting it to a signal for transmission which passes it on to the transmission medium. A receiver is, of course, the receiving end of the communication channel. The transmission medium is the material or device over which the signal is transmitted.

By serving as an effective transmitter of information the data fiber optics plays in the telecommunications process. Using light energy sent through glass has changed the way the world communicates and has revolutionized the process of telecommunications from this day and into the future.

Internet Kind of Slow?

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

With development in technology, broadband internet connections provide faster access. However, slow internet connection has become a major problem. The speed of internet connection depends on numerous factors. Hampering any of these factors can result in slow internet connection. Though some causes of slow internet connection cannot be controlled, most of the problems can be taken care off. Some tips for fast internet connections are discussed below.

1. Scan for malware and spyware: Spyware and malware are one of the major causes for slow internet speed. The first tip for fast internet is to scan your computer for spyware and malware and then delete them if they are found. These get downloaded on your computer along with some software or video that you download through internet. You must update your antivirus and anti-malware software quite often to detect and delete such harmful spyware and malware. There are many free and paid resources and programs to clean your pc of harmful threats. Take advantage of them.

2. Empty web cache: Next tip for fast internet is to empty your web cache or keep it as small as possible. Web cache contains temporary internet files that get downloaded when you visit any website or webpage. These files occupy huge disk space leading to slow computer speed as well as slow internet. Emptying it can speed up your computer as well as internet. You must delete all the cookies and history too from the cache. Cookies can be harmful if they are from malicious websites and can cause harm to your hard disk and invade your privacy.

A very useful feature on both firefox and internet explorer is the option to clear your cookies after each internet session. This can drastically speed up your web experience.

3. Increasing speed of web pages: One of the main reasons for slow internet connection is slow web page. They tend to be slow due to overload of animation and other scripts. The next tip for fast internet is to reduce the number of scripts and animation load on your web page. The fastest option is to restrict browser to display only text.

Another trick you can do to speed up the loading of web pages is to load
text only browsers. This type of setting loads only the text and prevents the loading of any heavy graphics or animation, often the culprit of slow web browsing.

4. Use of proxy: A proxy server acts as a buffer between the internet resources that are being accessed and your computer. The servers save files that are frequently requested by numerous internet users in a special database which is called “cache”. Hence, proxy servers enable high internet and personal computer speed as they allow your computer to utilize this “cache of saved data”. Your computer need not load the information or website that is sought to be accessed as it already exists on the server’s hard drive. Setting up proxy server is very simple and can be done manually in 10 minutes.

Hypoallergic Dog Breeds – Allergic To Dogs? This Is For You!

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Hypoallergenic dog breeds are the most suitable for people who are allergic to dog dander and fur. Some of the more popular hypoallergenic dog breeds include terrier, basenji, bichon frise, poodle, chinese crested, greyhound, havanese, irish water spaniel, and shih tzu.

While they do produce some dander, the dander of hypoallogenic dogs is little enough to create minimal discomfort for those who come in contact with them. There are many breeds of hypoallergenic dog. Many of them are miniatures or toys that have lots of energy and may have difficult temperaments for the more sedate dog owner.

Nonetheless, even the allergic dog owner can follow a few simple steps to limit discomfort and enjoy your life with your furry companion. These tips will also generally apply to any household welcoming a new dog into its family, especially the hypoallergenic dog breeds.

A new dog (no matter how old) may well be frightened during its first hours and days in your house. Hypoallergenic dog breeds tend to be a bit more nervous than others. It may not welcome human contact at first, so you should refrain from handling them too much the first few days. Be attentive, but don’t smother them with affection. Let them acclimate to their new house. Just let your new dog roam around the house, sniff the furniture, and find its way around.

When your new hypoallergenic dog becomes accustomed to its new surroundings, begin a grooming routine to reduce the amount of dander and fur that might otherwise settle on your furniture, carpets, and clothing. In addition to reducing your danger of allergic reactions, regular brushing will reduce matting and knots that make your hypoallergenic dog uncomfortable and unattractive. A steel comb with wide teeth will help untangle knots and trap loose hair. It’s important not to let your hypoallergenic dog’s skin get too dry with all the brushing and grooming. You can find products at the pet store or through your veterinarian that will help reduce skin problems.

Giving your hypoallergenic dog plenty of exercise will also reduce your risk of allergic reaction. First, the fresh air will help keep its fur free of dander. Second, when your dog is tired and sleeps all night, it will be less likely to want your company while you sleep, spending less time on your bed to leave dander and fur on your bedspread and sheets. Regular, frequent cleaning of your sheets and bedspread will also reduce your discomfort.

Make sure your hypoallergenic dog has a special place of its own to sleep, day and night. A soft bed or an old blanket will give them a warm, secure spot for sleeping. Wash their pet bed often so that dander and fur don’t build up to a dangerous level where it can easily transfer to your carpet or clothing.

You can’t avoid some allergens from being present in your home, even with a hypoallergenic dog breed, so it’s important to keep your home well-vacuumed and clean at all times to maintain your good health as well.

Regular grooming is perhaps more important for hypoallergenic dog breeds than for others, especially when you have allergies to your baby. Even dogs with short hair need regular professional grooming. For people with allergies, monthly baths are a must! This will not only protect you from allergies, but it will assure your hypoallergenic dog a long, happy, healthy life.

Remember that even hypoallergenic dog breeds can still cause allergy attacks now and then. Be sure you visit your doctor when you get your dog and continue to follow your personal preventive routine to prevent serious problems with your allergies.

10 Strategies to Creating More in Less Time

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Following is a list–a menu of options, if you will–of
strategies that will get you on the road to creating more in
less time and turbo-charging your productivity! I’ve often said
that there is no “one size fits all” recipe to life, but if you
try at least one strategy every three weeks, I promise you will
see huge improvements in the overall quality of your life after
the end of that third week. I picked a minimum of three weeks
because it typically takes at least 21 days to develop a new
habit. You can start with the one that jazzes you the most and
take it from there. No pressure! Find a buddy or an
accountability partner to try this with, or share it with your
coach if you have one so you’ll have more incentive to make
these positive steps forward. Are you ready? Here we go:

1. Manage your energy-this is a biggie!

I often get quizzical looks when I offer this suggestion without
any further explanation, but trust me. Once I explain the
process, it should make sense. There are four levels of energy
that need our attention: physical, emotional, mental, and
spiritual. You can manage your physical energy by eating
nutritious foods, exercising, and sleeping. You can manage your
emotional energy by paying attention to how you respond to
events and being aware of what you can and cannot control. Also,
spending time with positive, inspiring people can enhance your
emotional energy. You can manage your mental energy by reading,
expanding your knowledge base, and being curious. You can manage
your spiritual energy by meditation or prayer, and being
committed to a purpose in life that benefits all. Naturally,
when your energy levels are higher, your productivity increases
too.

I highly recommend the book, The Power of Full Engagement by Jim
Loehr and Tony Schwartz. They do an excellent job of going
in-depth on how you can manage each of these four energy levels.

2. Collaborate with others

This may be a stretch for people who are used to flying solo on
most things, but you might surprise yourself if you find someone
to work with that will result in an outcome beyond each of your
dreams. This strategy comes in handy when you have a big
project, or what James Collins and Jerry Porras call a “Big
Hairy Audacious Goal” (BHAG). You can find collaborators by
doing volunteer work in your community, networking, and taking
advantage of your center of influence both locally and in the
virtual world. It’s important that these potential partners
share similar values with you, and if you both have a common
vision, the sky can be the limit!

3. Pay attention to your body rhythms

In economics, we use a term called “decreasing marginal
productivity,” and in layman’s terms, it means that your
productivity levels tend to increase at a slower rate over time.
If you know when you work best, you can consciously know when
you’re maxing out and take a break when the time comes. Do you
work better in the morning? How about in the evening or
afternoon? If you have the opportunity to work when you’re the
most productive and efficient, and rest when you feel like it’s
starting to be a big effort, you’ll get more done. I realize
that if you have a full time job, that flexibility may not be
built in, but I strongly encourage it for those who do have a
flexible schedule.

4. Use your strengths and farm out the rest

Are you really saving money doing it all by yourself? Maybe not!
Weighing the costs of time versus money can be very revealing.
It’s usually best to focus on what you do best for better
productivity. Think about what you could farm out to someone
else. Think about your own worth per hour. Could you make more
money doing what you’re good at rather than save money by doing
something you should pay someone else to do?

If you can automate some of these processes (i.e., auto draft
for bill paying, online bill paying, or direct deposit, to name
a few), then all the better!

5. Recognize the cycle of chaos and order and use it to your
advantage

I quietly suffered in silence for years because I felt that my
life was a living paradox. But when someone I respected shared
that paradoxes were the norm in life, I breathed a big sigh of
relief! One of many paradoxes or dichotomies that come to mind
is the cycle of chaos and order. Did you know that creativity
can be a really messy process, and that it’s not necessarily a
bad thing? If you’re in the midst of brainstorming ideas, you’re
probably not be in linear mode. Your desk or work space may not
be tidy during this process either. Take it in stride. It’s
highly likely that if you don’t stress about the “mess”
(conceptually and literally) when in the midst of creative,
right brain activities, you’ll move through the process much
more quickly.

Oftentimes, the order naturally emerges during this process, and
usually what comes out on the other end is quite coherent and
delightful, whether it’s a work of art or a business plan. On
the other hand, order can also come in handy right from the very
beginning, especially when working on more linear processes like
paying bills, doing your financial forecasts, family routines,
and so on. The trick is to have a system in place that has some
structure with flexibility built in.

6. Use a balance of your natural personality plus a stretch
goal in order to grow

In my “Free Relationship with Time” e-course, I talk about three
basic personalities I’ve noticed over the years: the
“goal-oriented with optimistic ‘to-do’ lists” personality; the
“naturally schedule-oriented, planning your days to the minute
detail” personality; and the “hate routine and fly by the seat
of your pants, and maybe even thrive on it” personality. And
there are variations within each of these. They can even
overlap. There is no “right” way to be if it works for you
instead of against you.

For example, optimistic goals are great, but the key is not to
beat yourself up if you don’t reach all of them. Instead, think
of the journey you enjoyed trying to get there. You’re probably
further along than you would’ve been if you didn’t have any
goals.

Planning to the minute detail works well if you have realistic
expectations about your ‘to-do’ list. Some things you have to
do, and others you’d like to do. While you’re planning, you
might as well carve out some “fun time” for yourself and give
yourself more time than you think it might take to complete the
tasks. Committing an average of five to ten minutes a day to the
very big but lower priority tasks can go a long way. These baby
steps will definitely add up.

If you’re efficient and stress-free with flying by the seat of
your pants, then who am I to rock the boat? But if you find
yourself stressed physically or mentally as a result, I’d
suggest going outside your comfort zone gradually. I wouldn’t
spring a ‘to-do’ list on you right off the bat. That would
probably be a slow death to you! But if you could have someone
support you as the deadline looms, it will help. Also, try
putting a notepad or a piece of paper near your work station or
someplace where you’ll see it every day, and as a task you know
needs to be done occurs to you, write it down on the piece of
paper or notepad. If there’s an imposed due date, write that
down next to it. It will be there as a constant reminder, and
you may be inclined to complete it ahead of schedule rather than
in the knick of time, or not at all.

Procrastination can transcend the personality types mentioned
above, so think about why you procrastinate. Is it because it’s
a boring task? Is it a big scary task? Is it a task you don’t
see as a high priority? Naming it out loud and on paper is a
good start. Here’s a challenge for the chronic procrastinator.
Take out a piece of paper and draw two lines in a cross so that
you have four boxes. The idea would be to get in touch with your
rebel and write all the things on which you’ve procrastinated in
the top left box; in the top right box, your reasons for
procrastinating; in the bottom left box, the cost of not doing
them; then in the right bottom box, all the benefits of doing
those things you’ve procrastinated on. After you’ve done that,
share these with someone you know who wants you to succeed. In
fact, you can even email them to me at carolmanagingpersonalresources.com, and I will acknowledge you for
this step in the process.

7. Practice daily self-awareness

Another favorite activity of mine is what I call “Downloading my
brain to paper.” You wouldn’t believe the relief I feel after
journaling-especially after a stressful day. If you’re a
scheduler, carve out a certain time of day to do this. Or if
you’re like me, journal when the spirit hits you if scheduling
seems too restrictive. Write everything that is on your mind,
including items you know you need to be working on. These can
include areas of physical well being, relationships, or some
tolerations you’ve been avoiding like shampooing your carpets,
cleaning out a closet or desk drawer, and so on. Don’t edit
yourself. No one has to see what you wrote. Some of the greatest
ideas have been born in the journal. I always have more clarity
after journaling and my productivity goes through the roof as a
result.

Also, if you’re aware of some of the assessments out there such
as the MBTI® or the DiSC, knowing your personality type and
behavioral style can also help you use the most efficient
methods specific to you to get things done.

8. Make sure you schedule “you” time every day

I can already hear some of you screaming at me, “Carol, I don’t
have time to take time for myself, and you’re already giving me
these challenges that I don’t have time to do. And aerobic
exercise? Puh-leeze!” This is just another one of those
paradoxes. I promise you after taking down time for yourself–
even if it’s just 30 minutes to an hour a day, doing something
you absolutely love-you will be much more productive after
you’ve come back from that break. Remember, when your marginal
productivity decreases, you’re wasting time anyway.

Many of you who are moms may have heard the phrase, “If Mom’s
not happy, then no one in the house is happy!” But even if
you’re not a mom, and you live with others, this rule can apply.

Invitation: Take a moment to write down three rituals that you
know give you energy. Examples can include reading, exercise,
journaling, gardening, music, sports, sailing, tai chi, yoga, or
spending time in nature.

9. Employ some of the traditional ‘time management’ tips

Here are a couple of ideas to consider. Visit
http://www.power-edsolutionsinc.com/TimeTracker.pdf and download
the time log chart and print it out. Then try the following for
a week: Either the night before, or the following morning, make
a list on the left hand side of the grid of what you intend to
do that day. Then on the right side, at the end of the day, list
what you actually did. Evaluate how you did each day. Did you
meet your expectations, or did you schedule too much?

List all of the distractions that come up for you-the annoying
ones and those that you find enjoyable. I challenge you to use
those fun distractions as rewards after putting a dent in your
proverbial “to-do” list. If the phone rings, let it go to voice
mail. Turn off your instant messaging (if you have it). Tell
your friends not to come over unannounced unless it’s an
emergency or unless they want to help you with your tasks. And
prioritize, prioritize, prioritize!

Again, if you find that you don’t have the discipline,
inclination, motivation, or inspiration to do any of this, then
perhaps a friend, a coach, or someone you trust can serve as an
accountability partner to support you and keep you “honest”.

10. Create passive income

I’m just going to plant some seeds here, because the “how to” of
this process is a rather lengthy one, but well worth pursuing.
Why? Because when most of your money is working for you instead
of you working for most of your money, it gives you more time to
do the things you enjoy doing in life. You can do this by
receiving commission as an affiliate of other people’s products
sold, creating digital products of your own, investing (in the
market and certain forms of real estate, for example), and even
network marketing. There are so many options out there with many
moving parts, but if you choose and master just one source of
creating passive income for yourself, look out!

I realize that “life happens,” but as I said at the beginning of
this article, if you try just one of these strategies for three
weeks straight, watch those productivity floodgates open for
you. I invite you to email me and tell me how it went for you,
and I’ll congratulate you with a big grin on my face!

Make Your Homes Elegantly Clean Using Natural Cleaning Products

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Our homes do not have to be big for us to be really proud of it. A clean house is always elegant-looking no matter how small or big is. It is always heart-warming to hear guests commend our homes by saying how clean it is or how fresh smelling it is. A clean home is also good for our health and the safety our family.

Now, we do not want ourselves and our kids contracting infections from our own house, right? That would be such a disgrace! The key to having a clean home is by maintaining its cleanliness and knowing the right trick in cleaning.

Cleaning requires a lot of effort especially if you want the best outcome. To start off, you must know when, what and how you are going to execute this. Set your mood for cleaning. Be truthful with yourself on how you will deal with this. Some people would even hire cleaning companies if they are really willing to spend money to beautify their homes.

For the not so neat freaks, they deal with this by organizing a general cleaning every week so that their work won’t accumulate. This is much better since you would avoid a major cleaning session every year.

After you know when you will be cleaning your house, prepare the cleaning materials needed. This is important as to prevent any shortcomings during the whole process. Always have trash bins, garbage bags at your side to eliminate hassles.

Start with cleaning your glass and mirrors. Since they are the most exposed and susceptible to dust, dust them off first by wiping them with a solution of warm water and soap. Using a lint-free cloth, wipe down the glass surface. This won’t be hard to do. You can sort of rinse this using your glass cleaners. This will also function as a shield to help keep dusts and spots easy to remove. Dry the surface with a lint-free cloth afterwards.

Next is treating your furniture with a furniture polish. Just make sure that your polisher won’t destroy the finish of your furniture. Certain polishers have contraindications thus might cause your furniture surface to deteriorate. Be sure to dust them off using a damp cloth. After which, dry them off with a dry cloth immediately. Then apply your polisher and you will surely notice a glow on your furniture.

Just a simple tip from choosing your all-purpose cleaners: Be sure to choose only those that are effective yet is not harmful like those organic cleaning products. This will ensure cleanliness and ensure your safety at the same time. Also, make sure to read labels very well.

Chemical cleaners are so strong that it is never advisable to experiment on them. These cleaners are so strong that it may even cause allergies. Remember that most of these cleaners contain hazardous chemicals and acid which we all know are not very safe. Store cleaners where it is out of reach from your children. This is very important!

After cleaning the inside of your house you can process with doing the cleaning outdoors. A good idea is to invite friends and families over so that the activity will be more fun and exciting. You may even plan games related to cleaning so that your kids will enjoy it more. A friend or company will always make your cleaning worth everything.
