Spotless Speed Cleaning!

What is the standard time you clean your house?

Do you fully clean it every week? I am not the neatest person but I want to change and was wondering what you other housewives do? Do you do the major stuff( vaccuming, dusting, cleaning the bathroom) every week? And then just tidy up every day till then?

I never really thought too much about it, but with three kids in the house and everyone on vastly different schedules, I suppose I do have a sort of schedule of events for cleaning.
Break things down into three categories: Daily, Weekly, and As Needed.
Daily I wash dishes because if I don’t things can get potentially unsafe iin the kitchen. Daily I take out trash. Daily I pick up the toys on the stairs so no one takes a nose dive. My daily list are things that MUST be done… for safety’s sake if not for my sanity. If you think about it, you probably only have three to five things that MUST be done on a daily basis.
Weekly I do the things that are just a little more time intensive. These are the things that can be put off. I wash the bedding weekly. I do one large load of towels weekly. I clean out the car of trash and fast food residue weekly. My safety and sanity are not in danger from putting these things off.
Then there is the As Needed chores. These are the things that I have to do at some point, but don’t need to do every ten seconds. They don’t really affect my safety, but they sure as heck bother my sanity. I vacuum as needed. I mop the kitchen and bathrooms as needed. I reorganize my kids toys as needed. I wash personal laundry as needed.

The biggest thing with setting yourself any kind of cleaning schedule is to realize what you can do today and what you can’t put off any longer… so have fun with it, fold laundry while watching TV; do dishes while the crock pot is cooking dinner and the radio is blasting…

or better yet: *whisper* treat yourself once in a while, kick everyone out of the house for the day and hire a maid while you take a spa day and relax.

Usually do a thorough cleaning every week. I started to break it up into several days during the week. So that I can have the weekends free now that the nice weather is here. Also to make it a little easier after cleaning I close the doors to the extra bedrooms that are not in use.

I think a good way to get started in a better cleaning cycle is to try to set aside 10-15 minutes a day soley focused on cleaning. During that time you set aside focus all your attention and energy into cleaning one focal area. If you can continue to set aside a few minutes each day, your house will be clean soon enough and it won’t be as overwhelming as it would be if you tried to tackle the whole thing all at once.

I try to deep clean once a month(wash walls, cabinets and vacuum air vents) I have kids with asthma, so I have to make sure I get the junk off the walls and out of all the air vents.I find its easier to do one chore each day. Like monday I dust the whole house, Tuesday I vacuum, Wednesday and saturday are my big laundry days. Thursdays I do the bathrooms. But I have 7 kids so a good chunk of my day is spent chauffering(sp) kids to and from school and other things. I like to make sure the living room is picked up every day.

When I lived in an apartment I could get a deep cleaning (move everything and clean behind furniture, wipe down the walls, clean everything) done on the weekends. Now that I have a house I assign each room a day for cleaning. And do a deep clean that day.
Then on the weekend I do a tidy up job on the whole house, since that’s my only free time.
It doesn’t always happen that way but I try to at least do a good wipe down. I’m a single mother of a 4 year old and it can be hard to keep up and at times I don’t go to bed till midnight because of cleaning. There’s nothing better than walking into a room that is organized and clean!
Another thing that helps me is I’m very anal about organizing and putting things away. Everything has a place and it helps keep the clutter down.

Since part of my job as home support worker is house work, I don’t do a lot at home but I have found some products that are wonderful in getting things done fast. Swiffer Dusters are great and you can do a quick dusting without really clearing things off of a space. Also, in the bathroom I have moist wipes for quick touch-ups. I usually vacuum once a week, including the kitchen floor and then I scrub. For quick clean ups on the kitchen floor from muddly dog prints I have wet wipes for the swiffer broom thing. Both types of wet-wipes I have mentioned I got at Dollarama. The Swiffer Duster I got at the grocery store and even though it is prices it is worth it because it actually makes dusting fun.
